Welcome to the web site of First-Calvary Baptist Church of North Andover. If you are seeking a church home or simply want to visit with us some Sunday, it is our hope that you will find our church a warm, welcoming faith community where the presence of the Living Christ is found in abundance.
Who we are
First-Calvary Baptist Church began in Lawrence, Massachusetts over 150 years ago. Several Baptist congregations merged together over the years to form the church now called First-Calvary Baptist Church of North Andover. In January of 1988 a devastating fire destroyed our building in downtown Lawrence.
After a period of prayer and study it was decided to rebuild in the neighboring community of North Andover. We opened and occupied our facility in 1992.
We are a member church of the American Baptist Churches in the USA, a theologically moderate, yet Evangelically oriented denomination in the Baptist tradition of about 1.5 million members with churches throughout the country. Our church has about 300 members with an average attendance on Sundays of between 100-140 during the “program year” of September through June.
Although Baptist by history and tradition, our church membership is made up people from many different Christian backgrounds and we welcome all those seeking a church home or hoping to deepen their relationship with God and God’s people.
What to expect when you visit!
Our Sunday Morning Worship service starts at 10:30 AM. From September through the second Sunday in June our Christian education program for grades K – 12 is held during Morning Worship, and the children are dismissed to class during the service. Our classes use various curriculum materials that are biblically based and age and subject appropriate. Nursery care is available during worship for children up to age three. Following Morning Worship, gather for coffee and fellowship.
Our worship is fairly traditional, but at the same time informal in presentation. Congregational singing is made up of traditional hymns and an increasing use of more contemporary songs as well. The choir’s repertoire is a mix of classical, traditional, and contemporary church music. We welcome families and children and provide an easy to access “cry room” where parents with infants or nursing mothers may view the service as needed. Our building is all on one floor and completely accessible to those with special needs.
As a church with roots in the Baptist tradition we highly value the preaching ministry of the church and our pastor brings a strong commitment to this aspect of worship. The Rev. Dr. Richard Haley has over twenty-five years of experience as a pastor and theological educator. Prior to coming to First-Calvary he spent almost nine years on the administrative staff and faculty of Andover Newton Theological School as Dean of Students and instructor in preaching.
Please contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to meeting and getting to know you.
